15 Music Videos Proving That Riding Bicycle Can Be Really Fun (and Cool)

A new bicycle seat for my ride over to your house each night.
Owen – One of These Days.

Bicycling can be so difficult and challenging here. Crazy traffic rush, burning tropical heat, slower speed, and too-far distance are some major excuses people tend to leave their bike alone. Oftentimes riding bicycle can lead someone to get discriminated on the road. It’s common to see cars and motorcycles explode cyclists with blaring horn indicating them to “get out off their sight”. Schoolmates or friends see them weird and uncool because everybody doesn’t do it. Even bicycle parking area is something rare to find in shopping mall, train station, or other public spaces. But that’s the challenge, right?

For some people, they just don’t care what others say. Instead of making excuses, they still grab a bike to get the fun of it. In fact riding bicycle can bring certain benefits we’re longing to have; increase strength and stamina, burn calories, reduce anxiety and depression, produce zero carbon for the environment, explore and get to know the area better, stimulate the sense of freedom, and so on.

I used to ride my bike during my school years, but then gave up and sold it during my college. Thankfully months ago i could fulfill my 2016 resolution for having a new bike. My life routine has changed since then. No more wake up late and morning rush. I can enjoy the air, the sky, the music, the view, and the moment during my way to work. Even it gets easier to know the area i used to ignore in the past. There’s something relaxing about it, especially to pause my morning day-to-day routine.

Perhaps some people still consider riding bicycle is something uncool. So here i come up with list of my favorite songs that contain bicycle on their videos. If you think riding bicycle is uncool, just think again.

01. Coldplay – A Head Full of Dreams

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGZMvV9KBp8]
Their newest video shows us how playful it is to ride bicycle heading to the live stage.

02. Nada Surf – Whose Authority

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoLKvWf4Fd0]
Long before Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Premium Rush topped the box offices, there was Nada Surf’s Whose Authority. It turns out that bike messenger sliding down the street is a good scene to be filmed.

03. Headlights – TV

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuLeIjWOwK4]
Three people, one bike. Why not?

04. Coeur de Pirate – Comme des Enfants

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaUI6Tvd1sA]
Beautiful music wrapped in a lovely video; young lovers riding bicycles around rural areas. If you’re looking for something romantic, this is what you’re looking for.

05. Owen – One of These Days

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeu5NbmPgQI]
Mike Kinsella’s love of bicycle (and his wife) is real. This video can interpret his dragging day-to-day routine into melancholic acoustic emo style.

06. Hey Ocean! – Change

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lmpf8hsvaLw]
Among the other songs on their album, this song is the weakest. But it grows on me since i watch this weird video; cycling around zombies neighborhood.

07. Lanterns on the Lake – Another Tale from Another English Town

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEKBQ9oUtSU]
Lanterns on the Lake is the only band that i can imagine how it sounds like from its name. Let yourself be drowned into their dreamy sounds.

08. Matt Pond – Hole In My Heart

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_L80GiKgFIk]
Night cycling with your good friends is an easy way to have a good time.

09. Firekites – Same Suburb Different Park

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ftZgIhKUec]
Somehow they remind me to The Paper Kites. No surprise since both are coming from Australia.

10. Veronica Maggio – Måndagsbarn

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNgSDnqnHKk]
Beautiful lady riding bicycle, that’s more than just enough.

11. Ben Howard – Only Love

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWlKZ6C7cDY]
Let the wind blow on your face, for it is one of the greatest experiences you can get for free.

P.S. You should watch him covering Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe. Pretty fantastic.

12. Rosie and Me – Bonfires

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkOekEAAtMM]
This Brazilian trio can really make a catchy song. I remember when i was tuned in suddenly as i listened the song for the very first time.

13. Mogwai – How to Be A Werewolf

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrIRcB0x4iU]
Infecting cycling video with post-rock music is always a good idea. Sit back, relax, enjoy the cinematic view.

14. Queen – Bicycle Race

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xt0V0_1MS0Q]
The first rock music that i listened. I guess this was the song that inspired me to ride my first bicycle. Thus it will be impolite if i’m not putting them on the list.

Though this is not a music video, but the score is my favorite from Wakey! Wakey!, called Almost Everything. Plus, inspiring message is what they’re trying to share. Give it a try, your two minutes thirty six seconds won’t get wasted watching this.
